Memory assessment service

The Ashfield and Mansfield Memory Assessment Service is working in collaboration with the CDC unit to offer same day ECG appointments along with the initial assessment.

The appointments relate to diagnosing patients aged over 65 years with a suspected dementia.

The ECGs will assist clinicians when commencing treatment for patients newly diagnosed with dementia, as certain treatments, such as Donepezil, need an ECG to be completed to assess for cardiac issues before treatment can be commenced.

Bloods tests may also need to be taken before medications, such as Memantine, are prescribed in order to check kidney functions.

All patients referred to the Mansfield and Ashfield Memory Assessment service and seen for an appointment at Mansfield Community Hospital will be invited for an assessment following referral from their GP.

The ECG appointment will take place half an hour prior to the memory assessment and all information will be available on the appointment letter that will be sent out beforehand.
