Diabetes and Endocrinology


TickOur Diabetes and Endocrine Services include;

General Diabetes Clinics

Our department is committed to providing diabetes care in close liaison with Primary Care. Within King's Mill Hospital and Newark Hospital the service is led by a team of Consultants supported by Diabetic Specialist Nurses, Specialist Registrars, Dietitians and Podiatrists and other supporting staff. Patients who no longer require specialist Secondary Care input will be discharged back to their GP.

The Consultants also support the community Diabetic Specialist Nurses, through regular clinical supervision.

Specialist Diabetes Clinics

Foot Clinic

The Multidisciplinary Foot Clinic occurs on a Tuesday and Thursday, led by Consultants supported by Podiatrists and the Diabetic Specialist Nursing Team.
We have a dedicated Multidisciplinary diabetic neuropathic clinic led by Consultant and supported by podiatrist, diabetes specialist nurse and other supporting staff.
The Multidisciplinary foot service is supported by Microbiologist ,tissue viability team and orthopaedic teams on an as required basis. The foot team work in close partnership with the vascular surgeons from NUH

Antenatal Diabetes Clinic

This clinic is dedicated to women with diabetes or develop diabetes problems during pregnancy. The clinic is supported by a Diabetes Specialist Nurse and an Obstetrician. Consultant Diabetologists rotate to run the clinic and is held at the maternity unit.
We provide an Antenatal Endocrine clinic dedicated to endocrine problems in pregnancy.

Insulin Pump Clinic

We provide 2 Insulin Pump clinics a week led By Consultants, a Dietitian and Diabetic Nurse. We also have Nurse Led Pump clinics with a Dietitian at Kings Mill and Newark.

Transitional Clinics

We currently have a Transitional Clinic running quarterly supported by an Paediatric Consultant and Diabetes Consultant. for young diabetics of 16 to 19 years of age.

Young Adult Clinic

This clinic is aimed for the smooth transition of care of patients with diabetes from the paediatric follow up to the care of an adult diabetologist. It is aimed at patients 19 to 25 years of age.

General Endocrinology Clinic

We provide 14 clinics a Month of General Endocrine clinics, providing services for Thyroid, Pituitary, Adrenal, Andrology, Metabolic bone and other rare endocrine disorders.

Diabetes Specialist Nurse Services

The Diabetes Specialist Nurses based at the John Pease Diabetes Centre provide education, management advice and support to people of all ages with diabetes, their careers and other health professionals. Patient education is delivered, individually, on a one to one basis or by group sessions.
