What is a fracture?
A broken bone is called a fracture. Both terms are used but they both mean the same thing.
It may cause pain, swelling, heat and bruising.
There are different types of fractures that require different management. The forms of management may include plaster cast, brace or surgery to repair the fracture.
What you can do to help
It is important to follow any advice given by your doctor or physiotherapist regarding your injury.
As well as resting, try to continue to move regularly and complete any exercises you have been given to encourage healing and prevent further complications.
A healthy lifestyle will help bones to heal well and will help to prevent future fractures. This includes eating a balanced diet, keeping hydrated, reducing your alcohol intake, and stopping smoking with support from the smoking cessation team.
