11 December 2020 – Update 7
An update to patients, communities and partners of Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS FT

Hello,

This week King’s Mill Hospital was one of the first 50 hospital sites in the NHS to open up a facility to offer the Covid-19 vaccine. The first patient vaccinated on Tuesday was Ann Allen, 81 years old, and who happened to be a former Sherwood employee.

We know there is high demand for the vaccine and a lot of people will want to be vaccinated. Please work with us as we follow the process in a safe and managed way in line with national directives. We are working to clear principles in terms of the roll out, which include following the prioritisation plan defined by the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI). The priority order for receiving the vaccine is;

  • Patients 80 years and over
  • Colleagues who work in Care Homes
  • People who work at Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

I am grateful to the team who have been involved in this remarkable achievement, which we all hope will be a step towards some form of normality in 2021. Please wait to be invited to a vaccination, be patient and capacity will increase in the coming weeks.

Our three hospitals are busy and in the last couple of weeks we have seen an increase in the number of patients with Covid, as well as the many other patients we care for who have not got Covid. Whilst we are busy, I also want to be clear that it is safe to come to hospital. I hope you are as proud as I am about the services we provide at Sherwood.

Yesterday, the national information about emergency care for November was released and for the third month in a row, Sherwood was ranked 4th in the whole NHS, out of 111 NHS trusts for emergency care. This is incredible patient care and consistency. Thank you to all involved. We can continue to provide timely care only if patients choose services wisely. Please think about contacting NHS 111, primary care or pharmacy services before coming to hospital.

Please stay safe, look after each other and follow the guidelines. Thank you for your support.
