4 December 2020 – Update 6

An update to patients, communities and partners of Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS FT

Hello,

The weather has got colder this week and I hope you are able to keep safe and warm. Christmas is now only 21 days away and we know it is an important time of year for many. Thank you for your on-going support and the steps you will be taking to reduce the rate of infection.

The number of patients with Covid in our hospitals has dropped over the last couple of weeks and we are now at about 2/3rds of the number of patients with Covid that we had a month ago. This is positive news and helps us continue to make progress on providing care to the many patients who do not have Covid. On this point, it was pleasing to recognise earlier this week that over 95% of emergency patients have been treated within four hours at Sherwood hospitals in the last three months. This is a fantastic achievement by the team at Sherwood working with partner organisations and is a key contributor to safe patient care.

You will have read more in the news this week about the roll out of the Covid vaccine. I am writing this at midday on Friday (4 December) and thought it would be helpful to confirm what I know and what we discussed in our Public Board meeting yesterday. We know the vaccine is in the UK and will be start to be distributed over the coming days. Sherwood is prepared and is ready to work alongside partner organisations to deliver the vaccination programme in our region.

There have been no changes to our visiting policies this week and I would ask all visitors to treat our colleagues at the front entrances, as well as elsewhere in our hospitals with respect. If you are asked to wear a mask, or to distance, or any other reasonable request, please do so. Verbal and physical abuse of colleagues will not be accepted.

You may not have seen the BBC East Midlands news last night, but a third of the 1830 news programme was focussed on the care provided at King’s Mill Hospital. I found it interesting to get an insight into life in one of our busy hospitals and I am grateful to all who took part.

Please stay safe, look after each other and follow the guidelines. Thank you for your support.
