20 November 2020 – update four

An update to patients, communities and partners of Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS FT

Hello,

This is the fourth of our regular updates to our wider community, and I would like to start by thanking our colleagues at Sherwood and our partners for their continued dedication and compassionate care, and for the wider community for your support and the way in which you have responded to the continued restrictions we are facing.

We still have high numbers of Covid-19 patients in our hospitals and it feels very busy for all of our colleagues. That said we have seen a levelling off of numbers this week – it is probably too early to call this a trend, but it could be an indication that the stricter measures are starting to have an impact. Our message would be to keep at it, follow the guidelines and remember Hands, Face, Space.

There has been a lot of talk nationally about what Christmas may look like for us all, and while we don’t know what measures will be in place it’s clear that all we can collectively do is take the right steps to help prevent the spread of infections.

I also realise that many colleagues and community members will have celebrated Diwali this last week, and we recognise it will have been difficult to do so in the current restrictions. I hope you still found ways to mark the occasion happily and safely!

The other thing that we can do to protect ourselves and our community this winter is to make sure that as many people as possible who are eligible get their flu vaccination as early as possible. I would encourage you to book yours if you fall into this category.

Please stay safe, look after each other and follow the guidelines. Thank you for your support.

Paul Robinson,
Deputy Chief Executive and Chief Financial Officer
