Sherwood Forest Hospitals Trust would like to extend a huge thank you to Jane & Malcolm Gamble, who walked from King's Mill to City Hospital on Saturday 3 August to fundraise for the Sherwood Forest Hospitals Charity and two other hospital charities.
Jane, aged 73, from Southwell, had both her hips replaced at NUH, her husband Malcolm received care at King’s Mill Hospital, and her granddaughter was treated at the CAMHS Hopewood site at Sherwood.
Jane decided that thank you just wasn’t enough, and so planned to raise money for the staff of the three hospitals who had cared for her, her husband, and granddaughter by taking on a sponsored walk between the three hospital sites involved.
All of Jane’s family took part in the 15-mile walk, which took just under 5 hours. The walk started at the Oncology Unit at Kings Mill Hospital, where her husband’s prostate cancer was diagnosed, and went via the CAMHS Hopewood site, where her granddaughter was helped through her mental health issues. It finished at the Orthopaedic Theatre Suite at Nottingham City Hospital, where Jane's new hips were fitted.
The money raised, once Gift Aid had been added, enabled £3,000 to be divided equally between the staff of the three units, to enhance their working lives and the pair were delighted to present a cheque for £850 to the King’s Mill Hospital Urology Team.
Jane said " We had a fantastic day on our 15-mile walk, enjoying perfect weather and beautiful scenery. Most importantly, we raised significant funds for our three local NHS charities. Our whole family got involved, and that encouragement made the whole day truly special. We are thrilled with the outcome."
