Sherwood Forest Hospitals has confirmed a number of interim changes to its Board of Directors, including the appointment of an Acting Chair following the resignation of Claire Ward.
Claire has announced she will step-down from the Trust’s Board after recently being elected as the first Mayor to lead the new East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA) for Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. Claire has been a part of the Trust’s Board for 11 years and has served as Chair since 2021.
She is handing over to the Trust’s Vice Chair, Graham Ward, who has been appointed Acting Chair for a period of 12 months. Recruitment will soon begin for the resulting Non-Executive Director vacancy on the Trust’s Board of Directors.
The outgoing Chair of Sherwood Forest Hospitals, Claire Ward, said: “I am incredibly proud to have been the Chair of this Trust for the past three years, so I am stepping-down with real mixed emotions.
“While I am really excited to take on this new challenge as Mayor and to get started to make our region a better place, I am sad that my time here at Sherwood is coming to an end.
“When I joined Sherwood in 2013, it was a very different place: we were placed into special measures and had a constant revolving door of interim directors and staff.
“But together, with the commitment and hard work of our colleagues and partners, we changed that and we are proud to now be rated ‘outstanding’ for care by the Care Quality Commission and to have been named the Midlands’ best NHS Trust to work for by our own colleagues.
“I know I leave the Trust in the safe hands of Graham and the rest of the Executive Team, who I know our colleagues and partners will continue to give their full support to.”
Elsewhere, the Trust’s Chief Executive, Paul Robinson, has announced he will be taking a period of planned sickness leave this summer, starting on Thursday 16 May.
The Trust’s current Medical Director and its Deputy Chief Executive, Dr David Selwyn, will serve as the Trust’s Acting Chief Executive during that time.
The Trust’s Deputy Medical Director, Dr Simon Roe, will serve as its Acting Medical Director as a result.
