Nursery children benefit from generous donation

Little Millers Day Nursery which is based at King’s Mill Hospital has recently benefitted from a generous donation of nearly £6,000 from the Sherwood Forest Hospitals Charity.

Operated by Sherwood Forest Hospitals Foundation Trust, the nursery provides care for up to 96 children aged from six weeks to five years, including children of the Trust’s own staff.

The donation has allowed members of the nursery team to purchase bikes, trikes, scooters, a mud kitchen, dolls, pushchairs, climbing crests and gigantic tunnels for the children to crawl through. The addition of this new equipment means that children attending the nursery will benefit from a stimulating active learning environment, with plenty of opportunities to learn through play.

Renovations were recently made to the outdoor play area at the nursery, and the purchase of the new equipment has supported this work. The renovations include the creation of two enclosed play areas with a safety surface (which reduces impact from falls and is suitable for all weather conditions), sun canopies, a new perimeter fence and two new sheds to store play equipment.

The Sherwood Forest Hospitals Charity benefits from the kindness of individuals, community groups and businesses to fund and invest in projects within the Trust. Donations have meant the Trust has been able to invest in innovative new equipment, development projects and other initiatives over the years to offer the best possible patient care and medical treatment.

Children at the nursery absolutely love the new outdoor space, and the nursery team would like to say a big thank you to everyone who was involved in creating this wonderful play space.

Deborah Hall, nursery manager, said: “The new play areas we have been able to create thanks to this donation have provided the children many more opportunities to be outside in all weathers. They have loved listening to the sound of the rain whilst standing underneath the canopies and have been learning lots of new skills such as climbing and bike riding. The new equipment is really helping to support the children’s learning and make outdoor time a chance for them to have fun!

“Thank you to the Sherwood Forest Hospitals Charity for your kind donation, which is sure to benefit children who attend the nursery for years to come.”
