A room where patients can relax with their families has had a makeover, thanks to funding raised by King’s Mill Hospital volunteers.

The relatives’ room on Ward 44 has benefited from new flooring, a fresh coat of paint, comfortable chairs, shelving and artwork. It can be used by patients who want quiet time with their families away from the hustle and bustle of the ward, and as a private space for doctors and nurses to speak to patients or their loved ones about treatment options.

This idea came from the ward’s Shared Governance Council and Rebecca Newton, Senior Healthcare Assistant and Diane Aspinall, Ward Receptionist, submitted an application for funding to the Dragons’ Den 2024.

They said: “We are really pleased with the finished results. It's so nice to have a peaceful place on the ward for our patients and relatives to relax in.

“Thank you to the Dragons’ Den for supporting our project and to Jo Thornley and Emma Musgrove in Community Involvement for organising the work and purchase of the equipment and furniture.”

The Dragon’s Den enables teams to bid for up to £5,000 for an improvement idea that will enrich the patient and carer experience in their area of work. The project is funded by volunteers at King’s Mill Hospital with profits from the hospital’s Daffodil café and fundraising stall.
