Mum's marathon bid to thank hospital for saving husband's life
Good luck to Ruby who is running the Brighton Marathon in aid of Sherwood Forest Hospitals Charity as a thank you for saving her husband’s life after he had a sudden cardiac arrest at home.
Ruby Jones, of Ravenshead, performed life-saving CPR on her 35-year-old husband Rob, who was described as previously fit and healthy, in the early hours of the morning on 25 June last year.
Rob was brought to King’s Mill Hospital by ambulance, where he was cared for by teams in A&E, Critical Care and the Cardiac Ward, before being transferred to Nottingham City Hospital for further tests and surgery.
He was fitted with an S-ICD (subcutaneous implantable cardioverter defibrillator) beneath the skin under the arm, which sends electrical pulses to regulate abnormal heart rhythms.
Ruby hopes to raise £2,000 in sponsorship for Sherwood Forest Hospitals when she runs the Brighton Marathon this Sunday 6 April.
Ruby, who is a personal trainer, said: “This is the least I can do to say thank you. From those who came to my rescue in the first few minutes, who looked after our son in the early hours of that morning in A&E, cared for Rob over the many weeks in hospital and those who eventually fitted him with a device that will give him the confidence to live life to the fullest.
“They have all played a part in not only saving my husband’s life but helping to save our family.”
