Infant feeding

The Infant feeding team provides antenatal and postnatal support for women and birthing parents, in hospital and at home – which includes information on skin-to-skin, getting started with breast/chest feeding and close and loving relationships with your baby/babies.

Our Infant Feeding Specialist Midwife and International Board of Certified Lactation Consultants provides care for families with complex feeding situations, and facilitates a weekly frenulotomy clinic – the clinic is also staffed by two trained Midwives.

The Lime Green Feeding Team Health Care Support Workers offer antenatal and postnatal education and feeding support in the community, and in the hospital.

Sherwood has had UNICEF Baby Friendly Accreditation since 2014 and the Maternity department achieved Level 3 re-accreditation in 2019 and is working towards Gold Award status. The Neonatal Team is looking forward to obtaining level 2 accreditation. The trust is also the first in the NHS to have a feeding pod for staff and visitors, and has a trust-wide policy for staff who are breast/chest feeding upon return to work.
