SmartCommute King’s Mill Hospital has been developed in partnership by Stagecoach East Midlands and the Sherwood Forest NHS Foundation Trust to encourage NHS employees to travel to and from work by bus.
The scheme offer SFH staff exclusive low price bus travel that cannot be beaten by any publicly available equivalent bus ticket in the same area. It means no stressful driving situations and no parking hassles either. You can use the service for leisure too.
All Sherwood Forest NHS Foundation Trust employees in Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and South Yorkshire based at King's Mill Hospital or Mansfield Community Hospital are eligible to join.
It is split into two zones, allowing you unlimited travel in an area of your choice for a set amount each month, giving a saving of more than 40% when compared to weekly megarider, megarider plus or megarider gold tickets.
Zone 1
Covers services in Mansfield to the boundaries of Blidworth, Rainworth, Clipstone, Meden Vale, Shirebrook, Glapwell, Huthwaite and Ravenshead.
Zone 2
Covers Mansfield and the whole of Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and South Yorkshire.
How convenient are buses?
Stagecoach have bus services covering the town of Mansfield, plus many villages and towns in Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and South Yorkshire.
Most services in Mansfield town run up to every 10, 15, 20 or 30 minutes and many routes have evening and Sunday services too.
The service to King’s Mill Hospital runs up to every 10 minutes throughout the day. Journeys also run early morning into late evening and on a Sunday.
There are two travel zones.
Zone 1
Covers services in Mansfield to the boundaries of Blidworth, Rainworth, Clipstone, Meden Vale, Shirebrook, Glapwell, Huthwaite and Ravenshead.
The SmartCommute Zone 1 card will offer you unlimited travel in this area for £43 a month.
Zone 2
Covers Mansfield and the whole of Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and South Yorkshire.
The SmartCommute Zone 2 card will allow you to travel as many times as you like in this area for £69 a month.
How to pay
Your employer will deduct a monthly payment from your salary. Your monthly payments are guaranteed for 12 months. Any price increase may only be applied at the annual renewal date.

After your application has been processed you will be sent your SmartCommute card by your employer – please note your SmartCommute card is only valid for travel when used with your Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust ID card.
Your contribution towards SmartCommute will automatically be deducted from your monthly salary payments for as long as you are part of the scheme.
Using your card
When you travel on a Stagecoach bus show your Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust ID card to the driver and tap your SmartCommute card on the ticket machine. It’s that simple! No money, no paper tickets and no hassle with change.
Your SmartCommute card is available for travel on Stagecoach East Midlands bus services within Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and South Yorkshire.
Replacement cards
The cost of replacing a lost, stolen or misplaced card is £15, which must be paid via your NHS Scheme Coordinator before a new one will be ordered. The lost, stolen or misplaced card will be declared void and become invalid for travel.

You can leave the scheme at any time by giving one month’s notice. All Terms and Conditions regarding cancelling are available through your NHS Scheme Coordinator. Your card must be returned to the NHS Scheme Coordinator upon cancellation. Failure to return your card will mean you remain liable to continued monthly payments.
If you leave the Trust, your SmartCommute card must be handed in with your staff ID card.
