What Happens to the Deceased?

The body of the person who has died will be taken to the hospital mortuary, until it is released to the appointed funeral director.

There are limited facilities available at the hospital to view the body. Please contact the Bereavement Centre during normal office hours to arrange a viewing. Please also ask if you would like a chaplain to attend the viewing room with you. Alternatively, you may wish to wait until the body has been taken to the funeral Directors. 

Where necessary, viewings take place by appointment between 10.00 am and 4.00 pm Monday to Friday. In certain circumstances it may be possible to arrange viewings out of hours, and at weekends, but this will be at the discretion and availability of the staff on duty. You will need to phone the hospital switchboard on 01623 622515 who will liaise with the appropriate team on your behalf.
