Geriatric Medicine (Care of Older People)
Our geriatric medicine team provides a comprehensive and effective service for older people with a wide range of problems and in a variety of settings, with the aim of maximising the patient's potential and allowing them to remain as independent as possible. This requires the specialist skills of a multi-disciplinary team including doctors, nurses, therapists and social workers.
The geriatric medicine team also provides specialist clinical input and leadership to Mansfield Community Hospital and Newark Hospital alongside the multi-disciplinary teams.
Clinics are held at all hospitals at different times throughout the week, with new patients referred to the service usually being seen within a very few days. The team also benefits from being able to receive electronic referrals to some clinics via Choose and Book.
The team provide input to the following services:
• Frailty Intervention Team (FIT)
• Intermediate Care services (IHS)
• Ortho-geriatrics
• Surgical liaison (post-laparotomy)
The team offers the following dedicated clinics for older people:
• Parkinson's disease
• Continence
• Falls
• Syncope
